The following are organizations that I have come across that are dedicated to curing cancer and supporting adolescent & young adult (AYA) survivorship.
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) :: fighting blood cancers
Mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
LLS exists to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. We are the voice for all blood cancer patients and we work to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients.
stupidcancer :: The Voice Of Young Adult Cancer
Mission: empower those affected by young adult cancer by:
• building community
• improving quality of life
• providing meaningful survivorship
Our vision is no survivor alone.
Our charter is to ensure that no one affected by young adult cancer go unaware of the age-appropriate support resources they are entitled to so they can get busy living.
DKMS :: We Delete Blood Cancer
Mission: DKMS is an international not for profit organization dedicated to the fight against blood cancer and blood disorders by: creating awareness; recruiting bone marrow donors to provide a second chance at life; raising funds to match donor registration costs; supporting the improvement of therapies through research; and supporting patients from day one of their diagnoses.
Gift of Life :: Bone Marrow Foundation
Mission: At Gift of Life we believe every person battling blood cancer deserves a second chance at life — and we are determined to make it happen. We are singularly passionate about engaging the public to help us get everyone involved in curing blood cancer, whether as a donor, a volunteer or a financial supporter. It all begins with one remarkable person, one life-changing swab and one huge win — finding a match and a cure.
Mission: supports initiatives and provides programming in order to promote positive health outcomes for adolescents and young adults, ages 15-39, from the moment they are diagnosed with cancer through survivorship.
CanCare :: Fighting Cancer With Hope
Mission: improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families.
Support for Cancer Patients
Cancer survivors of more than 75 different types of cancer volunteer for CanCare and provide free and confidential emotional support and resources to those currently facing a battle with cancer. A patient is matched with a CanCare volunteer based on a variety of criteria including cancer site, treatments, age and gender. Support is provided over the phone and through email.
Support for Family Members
If you have a loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer and you need someone to talk to or need practical advice, CanCare can connect you with a family member of a cancer survivor.
Hospital Visitation Programs
CanCare volunteers regularly visit cancer patients in hospitals through our Hospital Visitation Program. Our volunteers help patients and their family members feel cared for, by serving as a partner to the medical team and offering emotional support beyond their medical needs.
